CHAMBER MEETING NOTES
July 10, 2007- 8:00 p.m. @ the The Steakhouse

Corky Thorson called the meeting to order there were approximately 10 members present. The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved.

Joe Gittings was given the floor to report on the 2007 Centennial Celebration. He stated that with the exception of a few glitches,

Joe stated that even with the two events that fell through the cracks, " if you weren't standing near the cracks, you wouldn't have noticed (the Native American Dancers and the Train) the entire event had been a huge success. He first of all wanted to express his gratidude to the Chamber Team concept that worked tremendously, that directed the entire scope of all events. Each team was assigned an event, they made the calls to attain volunteers, with little or no input or direction they (each team) was in charge of specific events. He felt that this was the underlying success of it all. He further stated that there were approximately 175 participants from the Chamber. He announced that from the beginning of the events on Thursday, there was just a feeling, people were in a festive mood and it carried on throughout the entire weekend. Starting with the 84-mile Pony Express ride with the Proclamation from the Governor. There were 8 riders involved in this. The Old Timers Baseball game was well received and everyone had a good time. Probably lots of sore muscles the next day. The potluck served lots of people at the Bronc Ride. The NFR riders were notable riders and would not have been able to attend had the Bronc event been on a Fri. - Sun. From Friday on the events under the tent were all well attended, from the Cowboyography, the drama club, dances, (all events) went well. The mountain men @ the Bad River Park were all successful. The extra security that was hired made the comments that this was the best-handled event, with very little if any problems arising. Saturday, The Alumni at the High School, the Parade (with near 200 entries)." The Car show, Tour of Tables, (annual event of the PHS Auxiliary) Quilt Show, Art Show, Capsule opening, nothing was deterred by the brief showers. The Sunday church services were well appreciated. The Polka Mass drew about 300 people that attended. The moneys that were received from the Free-will offering were turned over to the Ministerial Association of Philip. The Croquet match, and Demolition Derby kind of wound up the festivities.

It was mentioned that the Blow-up games went over really well, also that this might possibly be an adventure to get involved in, as it seems to be a lucrative business!

If any comments were made, it was that "There is TOO much to do." The Centennial Committee are satisfied with the response, ‘Thank You's' have been sent, as a last note he mentioned that it had been a long road to completion, the FIRST Centennial meeting held was September 20, 2004. As a last action of the Committee, Joe passed out Philip Chamber Shirts to those that were at the meeting and had helped.

Joe announced that there are about 60 lbs. of roast are left and the Chamber will be offering a free meal proceeding the Chamber meeting in August. The Milesville Fire Dept. Philip Fire Dept., Midland Community Club, will receive invitations. Philip Chamber Members and all that feel that they volunteered their help in anyway will be invited.

Don Ravellette was next on the agenda; he gave the following report on the Bronc Ride event. Two persons were pretty much the entire leaders of the event, Don & Brandon West. This was near the largest group of people in one place in the History of Philip; it is estimated that up to 2,000 (most of them paying for the show) were in attendance. And most of them had good seating, up close to the action, The competition was good, there were no injuries. There was seating arranged for 1,350 - 1,400. If this event is scheduled again, seating should be of prime concern. If it would be held, the same day was advised, as the name contenders would be at larger contests. If it's a good show, with good riders, the people will come.

Don further noted that the BBQ served 1400 people in 1 hour and 20 minutes, he observed only 26 people were serving and making sandwiches!

With no further business, the meeting was adjourned

The next Chamber meeting will be August 14, 2007 @ the Golf Course. There will be a free Meal starting at 6:00 p.m. FOR ALL THOSE THAT HELPED WITH THE CENTENNIAL CELEBRATION--- with the Chamber Mtg. following at 7:00 p.m.
