The Haakon County Conservation District provides assistance for conservation practices from the countryside to your backyard. The District offers a wide variety of products and services to conserve and/or enhance our natural resources.
For the homeowner, we offer a large selection of ornamental trees and shrubs for your landscaping needs. The District also has tree protectors, deer repellent, fabric weed barrier, and staples on hand to improve tree survival.
For the farmer/rancher, we offer a tree planting and fabric installation service for shelterbelt plantings. To increase survival rates, producers can rent the 535 gallon water tank on a pull-type trailer for watering shelterbelts. Morris drills are available to rent for planting grass seed mixtures and grains.
We are proud sponsors of the Philip Elementary Outdoor Learning Center and the Haakon County Conservation District Tree Research Project. We visit elementary classrooms frequently to teach students about conservation, as children are the future of agriculture in our community. The District also sponsors essay, speech, and poster contests at the schools to promote conservation. The Tree Research Project has helped to improve our tree program by enabling us to recommend suitable tree species for Haakon County.
